Important Information

  • All Indian passport holders, who are holding handwritten passport, or 20-year validity passport expiring after November 24, 2015, should apply for re-issue of passport and obtain Machine Readable Passport.
  • Passport is a valuable document. It should always be kept either in one’s custody or in the custody of a duly authorized person. Unauthorized possession of passport constitutes an offence punishable under the Indian Passports Act, 1967.
  • If passport is damaged / lost / stolen, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Indian Mission/Post and the local police.
  • Every child should have a separate passport.
  • Passport must not be altered or mutilated in anyway nor any endorsement made on it by any person other than a duly authorized official of the Government of India.
  • The maximum validity of an Indian Passport is ten years from the Date of Issue. Kindly apply for reissue of passport within one year before its expiry, as reissue of passportafter expiry could take a couple of weeks.
  • It is an offence under the Passport Act 1967 to give false information in the passport application. Passport facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of passport and for making unauthorized changes in the passports.
  • Indian passport can be impounded or revoked by the Government of India under the provisions of the Passport Act 1967and in such event, passport has to be surrendered to the nearest Indian Passport Issuing Authority.
  • If a holder of an Indian Passport acquires nationality of another country, Indian Passport must be immediately surrendered to the Indian Mission/Post abroad.
  • Passport holder should come personally to the Embassy for submitting application alongwith requisite documents for Passport services.

  • Passport can be collected either personally OR by third person on presentation of original receipt and an authorization letter.

HOW TO APPLY FOR PASSPORT :

  • Applicants are required to submit online Registration Form
  • Take printout of the Registration Form and then fill remaining columns. Submit the printed application alongwith requisite documents (see below) and fees at the Embassy.
  • Three copies, in original, of Personal Particulars Form
  • Fee is payable in RON by cash at the Embassy. Fees once received, cannot be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or if service cannot be rendered. Click here for Passport Fee   
  • The time required for processing of passport application will depend on the category of Police Verification to be conducted in India. Thus, applicants are advised to submit their applications well in advance (atleast three months).  

1. Fresh Passport for new born baby:

  • Printout of the online Registration Form completely filled in
  • Copy of the Apostilled Birth Certificate
  • Two recent colour photographs against white background
  • Copies of Passports of both parents (First and Last page)
  • Affidavit of ‘No Objection’ to issue of Passport signed by both parents 

2. Re-issue of passport:

  • Printout of the online Registration Form completely filled in
  • Two recent colour photographs against white background
  • Current Passport and copy of passport (First, Last and latest visa page)
  • Apostilled Marriage certificate / Divorce decree, if there is change in marital status since issue of last passport
  • Proof of Address, if new address is to be printed in the passport
  • In case of minor children - copy of Passports of both parents and affidavit of ‘No Objection’ signed by both parents 
  • Three copies, in original, of Personal Particulars Form

Change of Name in the Passport: Same as in Re-issue of Passport cases with following additional documents:

  • Affidavit confirming change of name signed by a First Class Magistrate. Publication of notice of change of name in Indian newspaper (original clipping) and local newspaper (original clipping); OR Name change published in the Gazette of Central government / State government.
  • In case of change of maiden name of wife after marriage, photocopy of Apostilled Marriage Certificate, and copy of husband’s passport will be required
  • In case of change of name of Minor, an affidavit signed by both parents.

Change in appearance: Same as in Re-issue of Passport cases with an additional document: Affidavit stating reasons for change in appearance

3. Re-issue of Passport (in case of current passport is lost/damaged)Same as in Re-issue of Passport cases with following additional documents:

  • Affidavit giving details of the circumstances under which the passport was damaged/lost and certifying that he/she has not taken the nationality of any other country since loss / damage of the previously held passport. 
  • Police Report, in case of lost passport
  • Any other supporting document as may be required after scrutiny of application / interview with applicant

4. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): PCC will be issued only after receiving fresh Police Verification Report from the applicant's State in India. Further, PCC applicant has to make necessary arangements so that PCC is despatched to the applicant's address as given in PCC application. Applicant's are advised to apply for PCC well in advance (atleast three months). 

  • Fill in the Application for Miscellaneous Services on Passport
  • A letter addressed to the Embassy stating reason behind application for PCC.
  • Passport in original
  • Photocopy of the first and last two pages of the passport
  • Photocopy of visa, in case applying for Resident Permit.
  • Photocopies of all Resident Permits of the applicant
  • Two recent colour photographs against white background
  • Three copies, in original, of Personal Particulars Form

5. Miscelleneous certificate based on passport (such as Certificate stating Date of Birth, Passport details etc.):

  • Fill in the Application for Miscellaneous Services on Passport
  • A letter addressed to the Embassy stating reason behind such certificate.
  • Original Passport, and photocopy of First and Last pages of the passport
  • Photocopy of visa / Resident Permit.
  • Two recent colour photographs against white background

6. Emergency Certificate:

Emergency Certificate is a one way travel document to enter India, which is issued to an Indian national whose passport has been lost / stolen / damaged and to whom new passport cannot be issued. The final decision of issuing an Emergency Certificate is subject to a detailed examination by the Embassy. It may be noted that confirmed air tickets are required for issue of Emergency Certificate.

  • Printout of the online Registration Form completely filled in
  • Proof of Indian nationality
  • Proof of the Reason, on which Emergency Certificate is being sought. 
  • Copy of passport
  • Four colour photographs against white background
