President Droupadi Murmu Received by President Nicușor Dan of Romania at Cotroceni Palace
Posted on: July 23, 2026 | Back | PrintPresident Droupadi Murmu arrived in Romania on 23 July, the final leg of her three-nation State Visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania. She was warmly received by President Nicușor Dan of Romania at Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest, where she was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour.
This marks the first visit by an Indian President to Romania in over three decades, underscoring the importance both countries attach to their bilateral relationship. Following the ceremonial reception, President Murmu held a bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks with President Dan, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, resilient supply chains and business-to-business engagement, and agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade between India and Romania over the next three years.
President Murmu noted that Romania is an important partner for India within the European Union, and that the India–EU Free Trade Agreement would create unprecedented opportunities for industries and skilled professionals in both countries. India and Romania also agreed to expand joint research and development under their Programme of Cooperation in Science and Technology. The visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
