Notice: Launch of Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card

The Embassy of India, Bucharest wishes to inform all Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders and prospective applicants that the Government of India has introduced the Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card, effective 30 June 2026.

The e-OCI card is being issued to all new OCI applicants as well as existing OCI cardholders. It incorporates enhanced security features and is integrated with the Government of India's immigration and visa systems.

Key features of the e-OCI card:

  • The e-OCI card is issued in digital format.
  • Holders of the e-OCI card are not required to carry a physical OCI card for Immigration Clearance in India or for availing other OCI-related services.
  • The e-OCI card can be downloaded by logging into the OCI Portal at https://ociservices.gov.in or through the official Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile application.
  • Existing physical OCI card booklets remain valid and will continue to be accepted for immigration and all other associated services.

Please note that only the digital e-OCI card will be issued for all new OCI applications and for existing OCI cardholders. Physical OCI booklets will no longer be printed.

Existing  OCI cardholders are advised to download and retain a copy of their e-OCI card for future reference.
