On the second day of her State Visit to Romania, President Droupadi Murmu had a series of engagements in Bucharest. She began the day by paying tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, laying a wreath in honour of Romanian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the service of their country.

President Murmu then met Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan of Romania and held fruitful discussions on advancing the India-Romania partnership, focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, connectivity and emerging technologies.

She also met Mr. Mircea Abrudean, President of the Senate of Romania, and Mr. Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, and interacted with members of the India-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening parliamentary exchanges and further deepening the India-Romania partnership.

As part of the visit, President Murmu also visited the "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum, where she was received by museum manager Prof. Dr. Paula Popoiu and Minister of Culture Demeter András István. The visit offered an immersive glimpse into Romanian village life and traditional crafts, including bead ornaments, painted eggs and traditional rugs, and featured an artistic performance by the "Periniţa" Ensemble as well as the symbolic planting of a cherry tree marking the visit and the desire to strengthen ties between the two countries. In his welcome remarks, the Minister of Culture noted that heritage means, above all, people, community and a sense of home — values shared by Romania and India. The visit, taking place as the two countries prepare to mark 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2028, opened new avenues for cultural cooperation.

The day concluded with President Murmu being conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, an honour that underlines the growing academic and cultural ties between India and Romania.
