Subject: Ambassador’s Engagements in Cluj-Napoca Highlight Growing India–Romania Cooperation in Innovation, Governance, and Cultural Diplomacy
The Ambassador of India to Romania undertook a series of engagements in Cluj-Napoca aimed at strengthening India–Romania cooperation across innovation, education, regional development, and people-to-people relations, highlighting the growing strategic importance of Cluj-Napoca as a center for technology, culture, and international collaboration.
A key engagement during the visit was an official meeting organized at Cluj-Napoca City Hall, where the Ambassador met with Mr. Dan Tarcea, Deputy Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, and Mr. Octavian Fodor, Director of Tetarom Industrial Parks. Discussions focused on expanding regional cooperation and identifying new opportunities to strengthen India–Romania economic, educational, and institutional ties.
The meeting highlighted Cluj-Napoca’s emergence as one of Romania’s leading innovation and technology hubs, with a rapidly developing ecosystem in information technology, research, engineering, and higher education. The Ambassador noted the increasing interest of Indian companies in the region and emphasized the strong potential for collaboration in areas such as digital innovation, smart infrastructure, industrial development, and startup ecosystems. Discussions also explored the role of industrial parks and innovation clusters in attracting investment, generating employment, and strengthening connectivity between academia and industry.
The Ambassador further underlined the growing contribution of Indian professionals, students, and businesses to the economic and social fabric of Romania. Both sides acknowledged that stronger local-level partnerships between cities, universities, and business communities can play an important role in deepening bilateral relations and creating sustainable long-term cooperation.
As part of the academic dimension of the visit, the Ambassador also met with Prof. Călin Hințea, Dean of the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences at Babeș-Bolyai University. Discussions focused on strengthening institutional collaboration in public administration, governance studies, academic exchange, and policy research. Both sides emphasized the importance of international academic partnerships in preparing future leaders capable of addressing global challenges through innovation, dialogue, and democratic governance.
The visit also carried a strong cultural and community dimension. The Ambassador participated in the parade organized as part of the city’s celebrations alongside members of the vibrant Indian community in Cluj-Napoca. The event showcased the rich cultural diversity and inclusive spirit of the city, while highlighting the growing contribution of the Indian diaspora to local society and economic development.
A highlight of the visit was the Ambassador’s participation as the Guest of Honour alongside the Mayor during the annual Cluj-Napoca Parade, one of the city’s most prominent community celebrations. Marching together with local officials, members of the diplomatic community, and representatives of the vibrant Indian diaspora, the Ambassador joined thousands of residents and visitors in celebrating the city’s spirit of inclusiveness, cultural diversity, and civic pride. The occasion provided a visible demonstration of the growing friendship between India and Romania and the positive contribution of the Indian community to the social, cultural, and economic life of the region. Addressing participants and members of the diaspora, the Ambassador emphasized that people-to-people connections remain the strongest foundation of bilateral relations and that cultural engagement at the local level plays a vital role in fostering mutual understanding, friendship, and long-term cooperation between the two nations.
