Subject: Embassy of India Organises India-Romania Hybrid B2B Meeting on Leather and Footwear Sector

Embassy of India, in association with ICIB, India organised an India-Romania Hybrid Business-to-Business (B2B) Meeting on Leather and Footwear on 11 September 2026 at the Embassy premises. The meeting brought together Indian manufacturers, exporters and industry representatives with Romanian business stakeholders with the objective of identifying new opportunities for trade, investment, sourcing and long-term business partnerships in the leather and footwear sector. The initiative forms part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to promote India-Romania economic and commercial engagement through focused, sector-specific business interactions and to facilitate direct connections between companies from the two countries.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania, emphasised the importance of strengthening business-to-business engagement as a key pillar of the growing India-Romania economic partnership.

The Ambassador highlighted the strong complementarities between the capabilities of Indian industry and the requirements of the Romanian and wider European market, noting that the leather and footwear sector offers considerable scope for expanding bilateral trade and developing mutually beneficial commercial partnerships.

He encouraged Romanian companies to explore India as a competitive and reliable sourcing and manufacturing partner, particularly given the breadth of India’s leather and footwear ecosystem, which encompasses raw materials, finished leather, footwear, components, accessories and a wide range of manufacturing capabilities. The Ambassador also underlined the importance of moving beyond traditional buyer-seller relationships towards deeper and more sustainable forms of business cooperation, including long-term sourcing arrangements, technology and manufacturing partnerships, joint ventures and other forms of industrial collaboration. He encouraged participating companies to use the B2B platform not merely for exchange of information but as a starting point for concrete commercial engagements.

The Indian side was represented by a range of companies and industry stakeholders from the leather and footwear ecosystem. Mr. Manpreet Singh, Chairman, ICIB, delivered the opening remarks from the Indian side. Presentations were subsequently made by representatives of participating Indian companies and industry organisations, including Feetcare, Maliks Export, Ram Fashion Exports Pvt. Ltd., Gupta Overseas, India Footwear Component Manufacturers Association, Leather Craft, Graves India Overseas Pvt. Ltd. and Nandi Footwear. The companies presented their respective product portfolios, manufacturing capabilities and areas of business interest, providing Romanian participants with an overview of the diversity and competitiveness of India’s leather and footwear industry.

From the Romanian side, Mr. Diaconescu Burulean Marius of Manokhi Leather shared his perspectives on the sector and the potential for enhanced engagement with Indian companies. The presentations were followed by an interactive Question & Answer and B2B interaction session, during which Indian and Romanian participants discussed potential areas of cooperation, sourcing opportunities and avenues for developing business partnerships. The interaction provided an opportunity for Romanian companies to directly engage with Indian manufacturers and exporters and explore possibilities for establishing commercial linkages.

The Embassy of India has been actively promoting sector-specific business engagements between India and Romania with a view to diversifying and deepening bilateral trade and investment relations. Such focused B2B initiatives provide an effective platform for connecting Indian industry with Romanian business stakeholders and identifying concrete opportunities for cooperation. The Embassy will continue to facilitate similar engagements across sectors with significant potential for bilateral cooperation and encourage Indian and Romanian companies to build on the discussions initiated during the meeting.
