Embassy Organises Viksit Bharat Run in Bucharest
The Embassy of India, Bucharest organised a Viksit Bharat Run on Sunday, 27 September 2026, at Floreasca Park, Bucharest, at 0900 hrs, as part of its outreach initiatives highlighting India's vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 100 people, including members of the Indian community, Friends of India and Romanian participants. The enthusiastic participation reflected the growing people-to-people connect between India and Romania and provided an opportunity for the participants to come together in a spirit of fitness, community participation and friendship.
The event was inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, who also addressed the participants on the occasion. In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted India's rapid transformation and its journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He emphasised that the vision of Viksit Bharat encompasses not only economic development but also social progress, innovation, technology, infrastructure, health, sustainability and overall human development.
The Ambassador highlighted that the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 is a national endeavour that calls for the participation and contribution of every citizen. Referring to the Prime Minister's emphasis on “Sabka Prayas”, he noted that the journey towards a developed India can be achieved through collective efforts and active participation of people across different sections of society. The Prime Minister has similarly described Viksit Bharat as a national vision requiring the active participation and collective efforts of citizens.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of India's civilisational philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, the world is one family. He observed that the participation of Romanian friends alongside the Indian community in the Viksit Bharat Run reflected this spirit of friendship, inclusiveness and shared well-being. The principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam has also been highlighted by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as an all-embracing outlook that encourages humanity to progress together towards a shared future.
The Ambassador further encouraged the participants to view the Run as a celebration of health, fitness, discipline, energy and togetherness, while carrying forward the message of a confident, progressive and forward-looking India. He noted that initiatives such as the Viksit Bharat Run also contribute to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding between India and Romania.
The event concluded with the presentation of trophies to the first three winners, recognising their performance and participation in the Run. The winners were felicitated by the Ambassador.
Following the Run, light refreshments were served to the participants, providing an opportunity for members of the Indian community, Romanian participants and Friends of India to interact and further strengthen the spirit of camaraderie.
The Viksit Bharat Run formed part of the Embassy's continuing efforts to promote awareness of India's development journey and to engage the Indian diaspora, Romanian friends and the wider community through initiatives combining fitness, community participation and public diplomacy.
The event was marked by enthusiasm and active participation, reflecting the shared values of friendship, wellness and cooperation between India and Romania. The Mission would also like to organise a series of Viksit Bharat Runs in collaboration with the Municipalities of Craiova, Bârlad, and Suceava in October. The initiative would further promote community engagement, fitness, and the spirit of a Viksit Bharat among local communities.
