PRESS RELEASE

Embassy of India Celebrated Holi Festival 2026

on 15th March 2026 at Club Heaven Ballroom, TIMISOARA

The Embassy of India in Bucharest, in coordination with Dr. Nilima Kundnani, Community Leader from Timișoara, organized the first-ever vibrant celebration of Holi 2026 on 15 March 2026 at Club Heaven Ballroom, Timișoara. Timișoara, located approximately 550 km from Bucharest, is one of Romania’s important cultural and economic centres. The event brought together members of the Indian community, Friends of India, representatives of the Government of Romania, and members of the Romanian business and cultural communities.

The celebration was organized with the objective of promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and traditions, and showcasing the vibrancy of Indian culture through music, colours, and festive traditions. It provided a unique platform for the Indian diaspora and Romanian friends to come together and experience the spirit of one of India’s most joyful and widely celebrated festivals.

Addressing the gathering, H.E. Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania and Moldova, highlighted the significance of Holi as a festival that symbolises joy, harmony, and the triumph of good over evil. He noted that festivals such as Holi play an important role in strengthening cultural understanding and people-to-people connections between India and Romania. The Ambassador emphasized that such celebrations not only bring together the Indian community living abroad but also offer Romanian friends an opportunity to experience India’s rich cultural traditions and shared values of unity, friendship, and harmony.

The event in Timișoara showcased these traditions through curated cultural elements, music, and festive activities, offering guests an authentic glimpse into India’s colourful cultural heritage. Participants enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere created by traditional music, festive interactions, and the joyful exchange of colours—synonymous with Holi celebrations. The festivities created an atmosphere of warmth, friendship, and celebration, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds in a spirit of unity and shared happiness.

The celebration witnessed the participation of over 500 members of the Indian diaspora and Friends of India, including representatives from Romanian government institutions, the diplomatic corps, cultural organizations, academia, the business community, and the media. Hon’ble Member of the European Parliament Ms. Maria Grapini participated as Chief Guest. The strong participation reflected the growing interest in Indian culture in Romania and underscored the importance of such events in strengthening community engagement and cultural outreach.

The initiative also provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about India’s regional diversity, cultural traditions, and heritage, thereby fostering deeper cultural understanding and appreciation among Romanian friends of India. Such events contribute significantly to strengthening the cultural bridge between the two countries.

Given the large number of participants, the festivities were organized in an outdoor setting, allowing guests to fully enjoy traditional Holi celebrations with colours in a lively, open environment. Appropriate audio-visual arrangements and cultural presentations ensured an engaging and memorable experience for all attendees.

The celebration reflected the growing cultural engagement between India and Romania, while embodying the spirit of diversity, friendship, and togetherness that defines Holi. The event also reaffirmed the Embassy of India’s continued commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy, strengthening engagement with the Indian diaspora, and fostering closer connections between the peoples of India and Romania.
