Subject: Ambassador Mohapatra Strengthens India–Romania Cooperation Through Regional Engagements in Argeș and Bacău
Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania, undertook a series of regional engagements aimed at advancing India–Romania cooperation across economic, academic, and institutional partnerships.
In Argeș County, the Ambassador participated in the RIZ Forum Business Conference in Topoloveni, where he met Mr. Gheorghiță Boțârcă, Mayor of Topoloveni, and Ms. Alina-Ioana Georgescu, Mayor of Călimănești. Discussions focused on strengthening local-level cooperation and expanding economic partnerships between India and Romania.
In Pitești, Ambassador Mohapatra held a productive meeting with Mr. Cristian Gentea, Mayor of Pitești, Mr. George Caval, President of the Argeș Chamber of Commerce, and local representatives. Discussions emphasized expanding bilateral investment opportunities, noting that more than ten Indian companies operating in Pitești contribute to local growth and job creation.
The Ambassador also met Ms. Ioana Făcăleață, Prefect of Argeș County, and Mr. Marius Florin Nicolescu, Vice President of the Argeș County Council, to explore avenues for enhancing economic cooperation and strengthening engagement with regional authorities.
As part of efforts to deepen academic collaboration, Ambassador Mohapatra met Mr. Tudor Petrescu and Mr. Cristian Negrescu, Vice Rectors of the University of Pitești. Discussions focused on student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and the development of dual-degree programs between Indian and Romanian institutions.
During his visit to Bacău, the Ambassador met Ms. Andreea Negru, Prefect of Bacău County; Ms. Ionela Cristina Breahna-Pravat, President of the County Council; Mr. Lucian Daniel Stanciu-Viziteu, Mayor of Bacău; representatives of the Bacău Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Mr. Doru Simovici. The meetings centered on strengthening regional cooperation and expanding economic engagement.
Ambassador Mohapatra also participated in a business meeting in Bacău with local industry leaders, highlighting trade potential and opportunities to expand India–Romania investment and supply chain partnerships.
These engagements reflect India’s continued commitment to strengthening partnerships with Romanian regional authorities, promoting investment and trade, expanding academic cooperation, and fostering mutually beneficial development across sectors.
